Avon Foundation for women: The facts

The Avon Foundation has been working to amend women's lives for the greater good for more than 50 years now. It is a subsidiary philanthropic organisation of Avon Inc, which is famous for its cosmetics. With the increasing efforts and initiatives over the years, it is, today, the largest corporate philanthropic organisation in the world.

Avon Foundation has done a great job and its efforts have helped millions of women in their lives. Its popular programs are focused on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief.

Starting in UK in 1992, the Avon breast cancer program gained momentum and reached the US in the following year and has been expanding ever since. Avon has joined hands with many other organisations and has raised over $700 million in the 19 year span with the crusade. The help includes raising awareness, diagnosis facilities, treatments and support services. Avon also funds research programs to find a cure for the ailment and help the suffering women.

The glaring problem of domestic violence leaves a mark on the status of the society today. Each day, one hears of at least one such case of abuse against women. Contributing over $19 million in the past 10 years, it is one of the major contributors to the disaster relief funds. Many instances of their campaign include the Yellow Ribbon Fund for the wounded in Iraq, heart of Asia campaign for tsunami victims and relief funds for the victims of hurricane Katrina and Rita.

To raise these amounts of funds, Avon does have a large base of fund raisers, sponsors and partners. Beginning from the large corporate and moving to the common individual, Avon tries its best to contribute as much as they can to their bit for the struggling women.
